Family group data sheets provided by Mrs. E. F. Wills of Chillicothe, Ohio are very informative about the Wills family. Her notes indicate that George came to Ohio between 1837-1838 when George was 16. He was severely beaten by his father, Meredith, so he ran away from home to live with his uncle Woodson. His family was from Otters Creek in Bedford Co., Va. and they raised tobacco in Va. A second version of the same story came to me from Tara Edgel. Legend passed down through her family that George's father, Meredith, tied his son to a tree and went to town. When he returned, it was nightfall. He untied the boy who ran away and never returned home.

The verbal history says his family was from Otters Creek in Bedford Co., Va. and raised tobacco in Va. Mrs. Wills says that the above was passed down by word of mouth through the family to her husband. George Wills eventually settled his family in the Jackson and Ross county areas of Ohio.

Mrs. Wills also told me that in 1850 George and his family started West in a covered wagon. They made it to Missouri where they returned to Ross Co., Ohio by train. She did not know any more than that. Mrs. Wills says that the above was passed down by word of mouth through the family to her husband.

George Wills is buried in Little Mound Cemetery, Richmond Dale, Ohio. George, his wife and two children are buried just near the mound.
