Teacher at Pocket Pittsylvania County, Va. for the Smith and Calloway children. From the book Peter Angle 1754-1968 by Eula Ferguson Angle, page 224. Other information obtained indicates that the Smith's were early prominent land owners with land in Bedford, Campbell & Pittsylvania Counties of Va.
From the book, "Frontiers Along The Upper Roanoke River", Chapter 3-Part 2, Life at the Pocket 1762-1776, Page 22, the following text is found: "Schoolmasters were not plentiful, and it was customary to have a community school, attended by children within traveling distance. The separate school room building was a familiar sight on Roanoke plantations. A note of Mr. Justinian Wills stated that when he taught at the Pocket in 1770-1771, he also taught Captain Callaway's children and others at the same time."
From the book, History of Pittsylvania County", page 106, the following is extracted from a paragraph: "Among early tutors at "The Pocket" were William Dabney, Robert Toenshend, and Justinian Wills; and in a letter of the latter, dated 1772, he stated that Colonel Calloway's children (of Bedford) and others were taught by him at the same time. The children of nearby plantations walked or drove to school, but those living at a distance, as Colonel Calloway's children, boarded in the same home with the teacher."
